Are you someone who reaches for the medicine cabinet when you have an ache or pain? Did you know that there are several aromatherapy treatments that have the ability to alter and improve your mood? Essential oils are all the rage because they have become known to give you both a physical and emotional boost when you need it most. These natural remedies can be applied to the skin as needed, or even used preventatively every day to foster a more holistic wellbeing. If you’re new to oils, here are some times when aromatherapy might help and which essential oils you should turn to...
Lack of Energy
If you are feeling tired in the morning from lack of sleep, or if you feel the afternoon slump creeping in, consider a dose of peppermint oil (found in Yon-Ka’s Nettoyant Crème) to perk you up instead of buying a latte or going for that second cup of coffee. This essential oil is invigorating and refreshing! The energizing effects will help you to power through your day.
Stress
When you feel like your world is out of control, find balance with rose or geranium (both found in Yon-Ka’s Hydra No. 1 Creme). These essential oils both work to keep harmony in your life and help you deal with stressful situations. I keep these oils handy and apply them to pressure points when I am flying or if I need keeping calm in chaotic situations.
Anxiety
If your mind is racing with hectic thoughts and you can’t seem to keep focus on the important things, sandalwood (found in Yon-Ka’s Vital Defense) and myrrh can bring calm and direction. Both are effective in helping with peace of mind and achieving balance. I like to apply this combination before a yoga class to boost the soothing effects.
Missing Passion
If your romantic life is missing that spark, try igniting the flame with patchouli or ylang ylang (found in Yon-Ka’s Crème 93). These can be used separately or mixed together. Their earthy aroma has been described as sensual and effective in returning passion. It can be really fun to keep these oils on your bedside table and apply them when the mood strikes.
Hangover
Were you over served last weekend? We’ve all been guilty of one too many and the effects can take a major toll on our bodies, causing it to react in negative ways to the toxins of alcohol. To help alleviate the common and all-too-unpleasant hangover symptoms, try using eucalyptus or tea tree oil. They are cleansing, refreshing, and can be the restart button you need. I find that applying them to my temples and popping an eye mask on for 15 minutes truly works wonders!
Restlessness
Insomnia can hit unexpectedly – and often at the worst of times. When you find yourself losing sleep to tossing and turning, aromatherapy can help. Lavender and chamomile (both found in Yon-Ka’s Guarana Scrub) are both helpful in relaxing your body and encouraging rest. Combine these beautiful scents with calming music or white noise to help you find happiness in dreamland. What do you use essential oils for? Let me know in the comments below!
